WHY DO I WRITE?

Hello Folks!

I often wonder why people do what they do? The profession or hobbies that they pursue etc., So today, I aim to delve deep into Why do I write? So let’s start.

Firstly, writing helps me in connecting with my audience irrespective of their age, color, creed, etc. It helps me in communicating with them as a whole without pinpointing any single person.

Secondly, for me, writing is not merely for writing purposes. There is so much that is going on in my head at the time of writing. So many ideas, stories of real people waiting to be written and let known to the world.

Each story and idea has its own uniqueness to be shared with the audience out there. And that triggers me to write.

Thirdly, I write as it is my way of interpreting the world, society, people, environment, and questions surrounding me. I look, observe, talk, and try to drive conclusions to the questions engulfing my mind.

Sometimes. I am successful in finding answers to all my queries and sometimes my queries leave an open-ended answer for the audience to ponder upon.

Fourthly, I write because my writing depicts who I am and what I am capable of. It does not need acceptability from people who don’t understand what my aim is.

It is for sensitive, yet mature people who are facing one sort or the other sort of problems in their day to day life and looking for a solution or just to have a view at someones else view about life.

Fifthly, I write as it is my way of catharsis regarding coping up with life, its follies, intricate relationships, etc, and looking for ways to ease the pain.

And perhaps, this makes me, very sensitive to the pains of others around me. That’s why, I give an open invitation to people to come forward and share their stories if they want.

Sixth, I write as I have a mind of my own where feelings and emotions are more important to me rather than filter thoughts. I say what is at the top of my mind and so do I practice the same.

My mind and tongue are aligned along with the words that I put on a piece of paper. So it is often hard to digest.

Seventh, I write, because I am my own boss and I do not take orders from anyone. I do improve by the sincere efforts of my audience but do not infiltrate my work with bogus stats or stuff that is useless.

And Lastly, I write because I feel no one deserves to be lonely. If my work in any way can give them moments of joy, it is worth the effort, I put in every piece.

In the end, I would like to say that all professions are noble. No matter what you pursue, do it with full commitment and passion. Bring out the best in you and along the way, do not forget those who are the reason for your success.

Enjoy each day, every second of the day with the gratitude you have another day to live among those who understand you and own you, Think about it.

Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

CRIMES  IN THE NAME OF CUSTOMS

Hello Folks!

Most of you may be familiar with the Crimes practiced in Pakistan, in the name of Customs. Today, I  aim to provide you with an insight into these Crimes. So let’s start.

Women in Pakistan live in a world structured around strict religious, family, and tribal customs that essentially force them to live in “Char Diwari” ( four walls), submission, and overall fear.

They are subjected to discrimination and violence daily due to cultural and religious norms. Pakistani Islamic Law too dictates traditional family values and is enmeshed in the legal system.

This places men as decision-makers regarding marriage and divorce matters. Pakistan’s law, government, and society discriminate against women and condone gender-based violence.

The first crime practiced in the name of custom is Honor Killing. Honor crimes are an act of violence usually murder committed by male family members against female family members who are perceived to have brought dishonor upon the family.

A woman can be targeted by the family for several reasons such as refusal to enter into an arranged marriage or being a victim to the sexual assault or even seeking a divorce from an abusive husband or committing adultery.

Simply, the mere perception of the family that how a woman has acted has brought dishonor to the family is sufficient to trigger an attack.

Honor Killings are common in the interior of all provinces of Pakistan which results in the massacre of Honor Killings to satisfy one’s perception of what is and what isn’t.

The second crime practiced in the name of custom is Karo Kari. Karo means black males and Kari means black females.

It is another custom where a man can kill a woman, claiming that she has brought dishonor to the family and yet expect to be pardoned by her relatives.

In Sind and Baluchistan provinces, the term Karo Kari has been officially employed as a label for the crime of double homicide. A man or a boy and a girl or a woman are both killed usually by the husband, father, or brother in what is characterized as a fit of rage.

Here the killer sees or in many cases hears or blames the victims actively engaged in sexual activity. Traditionally wherever practiced, Karo Kari is perhaps the only form of Honor Killing.

Another crime practiced in the name of custom is Violence. Be it verbal or physical or any other form, it is violence. In Pakistan, the rate of violence is comparatively much higher compared to other crimes.

Violence on women includes physical, psychological, and social oppression. It includes abuse, rape, acid attack, burning, killing, etc.

It is a violation of the right to physical integrity, to liberty, and to her right to life itself.

Another crime practiced in the name of custom is Forced Marriage. In the interiors of the Sind and Baluchistan provinces, marriages are forced and women are bound to bow before the wishes of the family.

Marriage of convenience is another custom where people consciously exploit the institution of marriage to obtain wrongfully certain advantages.

In Pakistan, however, women’s marriage with the Quran is common amongst feudal families or were inherited property matters.

Child marriages are found in the majority of the Tehsils. Such as Rojahan, Kot Addu, Taunsa, Tribal Area, Jatoi, Jalalpur, Pirwala, and Muzaffar Garh. In many Tehsils, early age engagement and Nikkah is also in practice.

Another crime practiced in the name of custom is the sale and purchase of women for marriage and lust purposes.

The sale and purchase of women is a practice and is more common in tehsil’s of Rajan Pur, Tribal Areas, Jampur, D.G  Khan, Kot Addu, AliPur and Jatoi.

Vani or Swara refers to a customary practice that is widespread across Pakistan and is used as a method for resolving disputes and settling debts between families and tribes.

According to this custom, females members from the offending male family are married or given to the victim’s family as reparation or penance.

These decisions are often made by the jirga or panchayat which is a council consisting of the elder members of the community and convene an informal court to decide methods for resolving disputes.

This custom is practiced mostly in Kot Addu, Tribal Area, Multan, Shujjabad, Rojhan, Jampur, D.G khan, Taunsa, Jalalpur, Pirwala, and Muzaffar Garh.

Aaf and Aas is yet another custom practiced in the tehsil of Rajan Pur and Jampur. In this custom, the offender/accuses have to prove himself/herself innocent by crossing the burning fire.

Another crime practiced in the name of the custom is Numrad. It is a custom practiced in Southern Punjab in which after the marriage of the woman; the daughter or girls of the husband’s brother is given to the woman’s family ( father or brother) in exchange.

They can marry that girl to whomever and where ever they want to.

In the end, I  would like to reiterate that such and other aforementioned Crimes practiced in the name of Customs need to be abolished forthwith.

Whether women belong to NWFP or Punjab, many do not get justice for these crimes practiced in the name of customs and there are lists and lists of women who have been affected and suffering.

These women demand such practices be declared null and void with immediate effect. It’s time to take action. Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

DISINFECTANTS FOR BUSINESSES IN COVID-19

AND BEYOND

Hello Folks!

With the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, the need for the time is a proper solution so businesses that are already running along with new setups can run smoothly without being at risk.

Today, I aim to talk about different types of disinfectants for businesses in COVID-19 and beyond. So let’s start.

Firstly, Disinfection is the process of cleaning something, especially with a chemical, to destroy bacteria.

Common disinfectants include alcohols, quaternary ammonium salts, formaldehyde, and glutaraldehyde.

Also, bleach, chloramine, chlorine dioxide, ozone, silver dihydrogen citrate, and thymol. …

Some antiseptics are hydrogen peroxide, iodine, polyhexanide, and povidone-iodine, alcohol, boric acid, and benzalkonium chloride.

Commercial formulations based on these chemicals are considered unique products and must be registered with EPA or cleared by the FDA.

Mostly, a given product is designed for a specific purpose and is to be used in a certain manner.

Therefore, users need to read labels carefully to ensure that they are selecting the correct product for the intended use and apply them efficiently.

Secondly, the most targeted surfaces which result in the transmission of the virus are door handles and knobs, handrails of escalators, light switches, table, commonly used telephone sets, faucets, sinks, chairs, and desk.

Along with customer service counters, paper files, pens, utensils, paper towel/ napkin dispensers, etc.

Extra care is needed to disinfect these surfaces touched repeatedly by different individuals both at publically used places and at household settings.

Thirdly, in offices and other working places, one of the main sources of transmission is a commonly used computer keyboard which is difficult to clean due to narrow space between the keys and also the electricity-sensitivity of its hardware to liquids.

Therefore such computers should have signs of proper hand hygiene before and after using computers to minimize the risk of virus transmission.

Ideally, the keyboards should be covered with commercially available plastic sheets that can easily be cleaned with an appropriate disinfect.

If such sheets are not available then use disinfectant wipes i.e. the use of a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.

These may gently be used to wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of the computer, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces.

However, care must be taken to avoid getting moisture in any opening. Some of the recommended disinfectants are given in the table below.

Fourthly, other areas and places that are prone to catching more viruses are through person-to-person contact during traveling.

Thus making Airports, Railway and Bus stations more vulnerable.

Some of the recommended measures to deal with the problem at hand are to treat airplanes, trains, and buses which must be disinfected with suitable disinfectant every time i.e. daily basis or at least on alternate days.

These places can be disinfected through; spraying with hand compression pumps, Cold fogging, Ultra-Low Volume (ULV) treatment, Wet-mopping, and/or auto-scrubbing of floors of airports and stations.

Fifthly, wearing disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and gloves should be discarded after each cleaning.

If reusable gloves are used, those gloves should be dedicated to cleaning and disinfection of surfaces for COVID-19 and should not be used for other purposes.

Also smaller objects like doorknobs, handles, handrails of escalators, faucets, sinks, etc., should be treated through wiping 4-5 times a day.

And lastly,  passengers also need to be sanitized on arrival and at departure time.  The same practice and procedures need to be adapted for other sites i.e. hospitals, restaurants, schools, and courts, etc.

In the end, I would reiterate the fact if we take all precautionary measures as an individual, we can curb COVID-19. Think about it. Until next time stay safe and healthy.
