EFFECT OF OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS ON FEMALEÂ WORKERS Hello Folks! We often hear about different hazards but no one talks about occupational hazards and their effects
We often hear people talking about Media Literacy.Today, I aim to talk about Media Literacy and its role in today’s scenario.Â
In the wake of COVID-19, what role it is playing is our main concern and this is what I aim to talk about today. Let’s start.
Media Literacy is a repertoire of competences that enables people to analyze, evaluate and create messages in a wide variety of media modes ,genre and forms.
Education for Media Literacy uses an inquiry based pedagogic model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, hear and read.
Secondly, Media Literacy is a contributing tool to help learners and professionals alike to broaden their perspective and experiences of media.
This helps them develop their creative skills and form their point of view on media messages.
Thirdly, Nowadays, all channels are overwhelmed with the news of COVID-19 and things related to it.But my question is,is it helping?
On a larger scale ,the masses have gone in the state of panic. There is so much positive to show but the Media’s focus is on bringing out the negative with a slice of positivism.
Fourthly, with every segment of the News that is on air, there is an increasing number of awe.Awe in the form of shortage of goods,of staple foods, of ruining of businesses ,of a bright future and what not.
Fifthly,is the overall impact on psychology.People need to hear positive things not just death tolls or raising cases or even everything is under control.
We are the people of this country and we deserve to know what we are heading for and what steps we need to take before going into a nervous breakdown.
Sixth, People around the globe are facing COVID-19 and have taken due measures to face the pandemic.Media everywhere, nonetheless is the same but what makes the difference is the ones running it.
You can have both scenarios. One where Media is state controlled and everything that is being aired has to be filtered first and the second scenario is Pakistan’s case.
Throw everything up and front.Besides sympathies, one might be able to draw International attention with donations and funds.Let aside the ego and stress, the people will be facing. They will find a way to address their grievances.
Lastly, every one of us needs to play our part in this scenario. This requires individual efforts of like minded people.
We need to stay positive and keep that positive environment around us.Media too needs to work on its strategies of airing News.
In the end, I would like to say that people look at media for the type of protection it can provide our future generations in making healthy choices regarding media consumption and usage patterns rather than turning them into mere vagabonds.
In the wake of COVID-19, we are all going through a shift nowadays.Today, I aim to talk about the shifts and its effect on us.Let us start.
Firstly, is the shift from outdoor working to indoor working. It is a big shift for all especially who are in the 9 to 5 jobs. All you folks out there don’t worry.
All will be settled and you will soon devise a strategy to cope up with the indoor workings.
Secondly, is the shift in the lives of housewives.IÂ would rather say not so much.Despite the extra hours of cleaning, still you get plenty of sleep to make up for the deprivation of accumulated sleep.
Frankly, I have never slept so much in my entire life than I do nowadays.
Thirdly, is the shift in our minds. We have started looking at life in a different way altogether.
Our focus on looking things in a particular way has changed.Nothing is immortal in this world.Make the best of it while you can.
Fourthly, businesses are taking a huge U -Turn.There was a time when doing small businesses were considered a shame and people invested in big businesses.
However, due to COVID 19, the businesses that are profiting the most are the groceries and the pharmaceuticals.
So, those of you thinking about investing in businesses ,you know what the best options are in these times.
Fifthly, is the change of lifestyle. Earlier, people’s choices in eating were not so healthy but now the main focus is on healthy eating and drinking to the best possible way.
We were aware of the organic foods and herbs and all but who knew, we would be doing the same we had been hearing for so long.Drinking warm water and boosting our immunity system.
Sixth, is the shift in our bodies. We are all fighters. We may or may not be diagnosed with COVID-19 but my gut feeling is that we are all infected. It is only our immune systems that is keeping us kicking.
So don’t panic.Be firm in your mind and stay positive. And do not see and listen to all that is going around regarding COVID-19.If we have made it this far, we will pull through it wholly.
Seventh,is the shift in our hearts.People have opened their hearts for everyone around especially the ones in need.
However, only if politicians in Pakistan who have filled their piggy banks with treasure can show a more open heart in this pandemic.
Eighth, is the shift in our mode of communication. We have become more connected with people around the globe especially the ones dear to us and even those who we know not.So social distancing has come as a blessing in disguise.
Connect more with people around and far apart and learn and open yourself.Let people be a part of your life and be a part of others life in the most positive way possible.
And Lastly, be Thankful for what you have and show that thankfulness in the things you do and lives you affect.
In the end I would like to reiterate that this will pass too like so many pandemics. But what we treasure today in the form of shift, acknowledgement and friendships will go a long way.
We often hear about different hazards but no one talks about occupational hazards and their effects on female workers.
Today, I will talk about various occupational Hazards and what can be done regarding their prevention. So let’s start.
Firstly, an Occupational Hazard is a hazard, experienced in the workplace. Different types of occupational hazards include chemical hazards, biological hazards, psycho social hazards, and physical hazards.
Secondly, the exposure of high concentration of waste anesthetic gases even for a shorter time can cause Headache,Irritability,Fatigue,Nausea, difficulties in coordination, liver and kidney disease.
Thirdly, are places where female workers are mostly exposed.Such as operating facilities with no automatic ventilation or scavenging systems.
Fourthly, operating facilities where these systems are in poor condition.
Fifthly, are the recovery rooms where gases exhaled by recovering patients are not properly vented.
Sixth, during dental operations and induction of anesthesia.
Seventh, is the reproductive hazards and the effect they have on female workers result in affecting menstrual cycle, infertility, miscarriage or still birth, low birth weight, development disorders and childhood cancers.
Eighth, these harmful substances enter the female body through breathing, contact with the skin and swallowing.
These hazardous substances enter the female body, circulate in the blood and running through the placenta reaches the fetus causing risk in delivery of the baby.
And Lastly, these workplace substances that affect the female workers are not only limited to them but their whole family is exposed to the hazards simultaneously.
However, Occupational Hazards can be prevented through taking certain precautionary measures at the workplaces.
Firstly, sealing or storing chemicals in sealed containers when they are not in use.
Secondly, is the regular washing of hands after dealing with the hazardous chemicals and before eating or drinking.
Thirdly, is to avoid skin contact with the chemicals.
Fourthly, is to learn properly about the proper work , practice and engineering controls.
Fifthly, is the washing of work clothes separately.
Sixth, to establish a hazard communication systemÂ
Seventh,to install a working ventilation system.
Eighth, is to train all female workers in hazard awareness.
And Lastly, is to keep a good record of all collected air sample results for at least 30 years.
Keeping the aforementioned in mind, the occupational hazard can be prevented to a great extent. All that is needed is a thoughtful heart and commitment and the desire to make a change for the generations to come.Think about it.
