MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN THE ELDERLY POPULATION

Hello Folks!

According to researchers, there is an ongoing increase in the population of the Elderly which will further increase by the year 2050 say about 16.5.

With the increase in the elderly population, so are the mental health issues related to them on the rise.https://www.sabahataamir.com/health-issues-of-ageing-women/

Today, I will unveil these mental health issues related to the elderly population. So let’s start.

LONELINESS AND SOCIAL ISOLATION:

The first mental health issue associated with the elderly population is loneliness. Mostly, the older population is more at an increased risk for loneliness and social isolation.

mental health

They are more likely to face factors such as living alone, the loss of family or friends, chronic illness, and hearing loss.

Loneliness is the feeling of being alone, regardless of the amount of social contact.

DEMENTIA:

Secondly, Dementia too is one of the mental issues in the elderly population.

Generally, Dementia is the loss of memory, language, problem-solving, and other thinking abilities that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia.

With Dementia, a person’s life is mostly compromised as one can only lead the post elderly life through proper Nurse care.

ANXIETY:

Another mental health issue associated with elderly people is Anxiety. They are prone to more anxiety disorders due to the loss of loved ones.

They suffer from more pain and chronic conditions and are often on multiple medications that might accelerate anxiety.

Elderly people having Dementia, are prone to more anxiety as they fear the loss of losing their independence and the ability to make decisions.

DEPRESSION:

Thirdly is Depression; which too is one of the mental health issues. It can cause great suffering and lead to impaired functioning in daily life.

Unipolar depression occurs in 7% of the general older population and it accounts for 5.7% of YLDs(year of life lost disability) among those over 60 years old.https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/mental-health-of-older-adults

Depression is both underdiagnosed and undertreated in primary care settings.

Symptoms of depression are often overlooked and untreated because they co-occur with other problems encountered by the elderly population.

Older people with depressive symptoms have poorer

functioning compared to those with chronic medical conditions such as lung disease, hypertension, or diabetes.

Depression also increases the perception of poor health, the utilization of health care services, and costs.

BIO-POLAR DISORDERS:

Bipolar disorders, are often marked by unusual mood shifts and are frequently misdiagnosed in the elderly population because the symptoms presented are typical with the aging process, especially related to dementia and Alzheimer’s. Bipolar disorder is common among women and men in this age group.

EATING DISORDERS:

Another mental illness associated with elderly people is Eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa. The underlying psychological issues that cause and stagger the eating disorders can go undetected for quite a while before an eating disorder can be identified and treated.

Changes in taste and smell (often due to medications), Persistent, untreated psychological issues from youth.

Memory/cognitive impairment, Loss of a loved one, Attention-seeking behavior, Depression, and other physical ailments are some of the underlying issues that lead to Eating Disorders.

These are some of the major mental health issues facing the elderly population.

As a responsible and caring citizen and member of the      families who have elderly people in their homes, one needs to keep an eye on the systems prevailing and get them duly treated before it is too late.

We together can make a difference.Think about it.Until next time stay safe and healthy.

BODY SIZE DOES NOT MATTER TO ROCK GOOD CLOTHES

Hello Folks!

Now, this is what I would call good luck. I have been yearning to write something on a topic like this for ages. And here I get an opportunity to do so. The statement itself gives its answer. Body size does not matter to rock good clothes. I will discuss, why it does not matter in the following paragraphs based on my own experiences. So let’s start.

As a child, I was more into playing and athlete stuff but as I grew up my focus shifted more towards studying and work on the laptop and all. All-time sitting and very less physical activities. Until one day, I looked at myself in the mirror. I was startled to see my image. That very moment, I realized, if I will not love myself who else would.http://simple.wikipedia.org

So with certain adjustments in my lifestyle, I was back to my good old self. What I want to reiterate here is that stop caring about what people are going to say or what your partner is going to say about your body; you should be satisfied with it and opt for ways to keep it in a way that is healthy and not problematic for you or people around you.

Secondly, you should have a positive image of yourself. I am sure you must have heard a lot about vibes and how they work. Yes, that is true. We all have a certain aura around us. The people in our surroundings pick up this aura or vibe or energy or light whatever you want to categorize it as.

movie star

They are going to look at you the way, you want them to. So even if you have the body size of a wrestler, yet you think yourself no less than a movie star, people will treat you like one.

Thirdly, you should always wear what you are comfortable with and what looks nice on you. Dressing according to your body shape is the best way to rock.

If you dress up in a way that does not suit your gait, you definitely will feel the odd man out.

However, if you dress up rather simply, no matter what your body size is, you will rock. You need to find out your style or signature according to your body type.

Also, be open to the dressing and clothes of other cultures. You never know their custom stitched clothes look fit on you rather than the ones you use.

Fourthly, I believe nobody should kill themselves to be someone they are not.https://www.sabahataamir.com/a-changed-body-h…is-where-i-exist/

You may feel good about yourself for some time but in the longer run, you will become frustrated with what you have become.

The man-made appearance comes with a price but the appearance gifted by your Creator can never be undermined. You should always remember that.

The world is a small place. We encounter a lot of people in our day-to-day life and learn a lot from them both consciously and unconsciously.

What, I have learned so far is that Heaven has made a partner for everyone.

They might come soon or late in life but surely will come. And for him/her body size would not matter as he/she would love you for what you are and not how you look in terms of a body.

The soul is the one that needs to be beautiful, appearances and people are short-lived.

People remember us in terms of our deeds and good heart. No one will remember us for what kind of body we had or how satisfied they were with us. So, I will end, with John Keats’s note that beauty is truth and truth is beauty. https://www.azquotes.com/author/7816-John_Keats and that is what one needs to remember in this world.

Think about it. Until next time stay safe and healthy.

WHAT ACTIVITIES CAN CONTRIBUTE TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE?

Hello Folks!

Have you ever wondered what activities, contribute towards a healthy lifestyle? Well today, I will unveil these activities. So let’s start.

One of the most important things in life that you need to take care of is your health. As the wise say, Health is wealth. No matter how much riches you possess, if you are not healthy enough, then it will be useless.

Taking care of your health means you have to do various things in your daily routine to keep yourself healthy.https://www.sabahataamir.com/easy-way-to-main…healthy-and-wealthy/

Firstly, you need to be physically active as physical activities are very essential in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Today, with the many modern gadgets and technological devices, it has become so easy to become physically inactive.

All you have to do is just spend most of your time at home using your laptop, TV, tablets, smartphones, etc.

Thus being physically inactive will surely have negative effects on your health.

Secondly, you should always bear in mind that living a healthy lifestyle is not only dependent upon the food we eat and the sports we practice, but it is also dependent upon the activities we indulge in and how we do them.

The fact that you refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol cannot be overemphasized.

It is probably the most important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle that you can practice.

Thirdly, a healthy lifestyle is not just about what you eat or how much you exercise. It’s also about how you think and feel.

According to the National Institute of Health, your thoughts and feelings affect your physical health.

It is important to take care of your mental state as well as your physical state.

Many activities can help with this, such as Tai chi, meditation, and even gardening.

These activities are both enjoyable and healthy for the body and mind.

Fourthly, cycling too is one of the most beneficial activities for your physical and mental health. You can cycle daily to work, for shopping, or just go on a long bike ride with friends.

Cycling helps with weight management by burning calories and lowering body fat.

Apart from the obvious benefits of cycling, it also reduces stress levels and covers distances more quickly than walking or running which means that you will be doing less harm to your body too.

Fifthly, is Walking. It doesn’t take much effort at all; all you need is a pair of shoes and the most comfortable clothes possible.

You can go for a walk around your community or even around your building. Walking has been proven to improve your mood and lead to weight.

Sixthly, spending time outdoors is also a fruitful activity as it can help in reducing stress and anxiety, boosting concentration and creativity, and enjoying the benefits of fresh air.

Spending time outside also means having space to move around and exercising in a natural setting.

This is beneficial for the body, mind, and spirit because it increases blood flow and releases endorphins while providing an opportunity to be immersed in nature’s beauty.

It also helps you connect with others while experiencing different types of physical activity such as biking or hiking, playing, etc.

Seventhly is yoga which requires a focus on breathing cycles while practicing poses such as downward dog, bridge pose, or plank pose among others. Yoga helps people feel more connected to themselves by focusing on themselves and developing stress-relieving exercises.

And last not least is that many activities contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

Some of these activities are more enjoyable than others.

But it’s important to find an activity you enjoy doing so you’ll be motivated to keep doing it!

Gardening, too, can contribute to the development of stress-relieving skills that will greatly contribute to one’s health. Such activities are a great way to express oneself creatively.

For example, one could paint on canvas or paper while listening to music to express their own creativity.https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_9fwhMI

In the end, I would like to say that whether you are living with a chronic disease or want to stay fit, every activity counts towards your goal. Exercise daily can help you lose weight, burn calories and prevent health issues.

Hence, the importance of fitness is becoming more evident in today’s society. While some people are not always able to go to the gym, there are a variety of activities that you can do and still receive the same benefits.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an athlete or someone who cannot exercise, there are ways for you to stay healthy and active. Fitness is an important part of life and it has many benefits that reach beyond exercising.

People are living more sedentary lifestyles these days. This is because our lifestyles have become more reliant on technology and less reliant on manual labor.

We are not getting the proper amount of physical activity that is needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which can lead to chronic disease over time.

In today’s fast-paced society, it can be challenging to find the time to take care of our bodies.

To keep your body healthy and your mind clear you need to engage in activities that make you happy and provide a sense of accomplishment.https://www.peoplefirstinfo.org.uk/health-and-well-being/mental-health/10-top-tips-for-good-mental-health/

Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.
