CHALLENGES FACED BY GROWING UP BOYS AND HOW TO TACKLE

THEM HEAD-ON

Hello Folks!

I know how it feels if you are left out from the lot. So, for all growing up boys and teenagers who feel like this, this blog is just for you, your problems/challenges at hand, and how to tackle them head-on. So let’s start.

The question that is often asked is, “why do boys struggle more than girls?” There are many reasons for this. One of the most prominent reasons is that boys are given fewer opportunities to succeed.

The lack of success can lead to feelings of low self-esteem among boys which can have long-term effects on their future.

CHALLENGES FACED BY GROWING UP BOYS/CHILDREN:

Secondly, the challenges faced by growing up boys largely depend on their family background, socio-economic status, and location.

Factors such as personal biases and stereotypes affect their experiences, which then shape their expectations of the world.

Family and peer pressures too can put a halt on the overall grooming of boys thus complicating things for them.

GENDER BIASES:

Thirdly, the challenges faced by boys are manyfold but can be categorized into two major categories – male disadvantage and gender inequality.

The former focuses on inequalities related to boys’ roles, while the latter focuses on inequalities related to girls’ roles.

We cannot place both genders in isolation when it comes to specific roles. Both face their challenges and need to be addressed duly.

DEALING WITH ADHD:

Fourthly, there are many other issues that boys face as they grow up such as being more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD(Attention Deficit hyperactivity disorder),https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd/symptoms

Being more likely to be fatherless, take more dangerous risks, and are less likely to graduate high school compared to their female counterparts.

It appears that there is a critical imbalance between males and females.

COMPARISONS:

Fifthly,  presently, there is no denying the reality that men are constantly being assaulted in different ways by society.

They are bombarded with harmful stereotypes from a young age and these stereotypes have a powerful impact on their lives. Comparison simply kills the fire inside any individual.

EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS:

Sixthly, boys are disadvantaged in the educational system too. For example, they are more likely to be suspended or expelled from school than girls, and they are less likely to be taught by qualified teachers.

This unequal treatment manifests itself in boys’ learning outcomes. For many boys, violence is seen as an appropriate response to any wrongdoing; they learn that solving problems with violence is a good thing.

These social norms can result in men becoming perpetrators of sexual violence against women and girls.

DEALING WITH BULLYING:

Seventhly, Bullying is an unfortunate reality for many children and adolescents. For boys, the bullying may manifest in different ways than girls, but it can have just as much of an impact on their mental health.

Bullying is a serious issue and can result in many mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, and even suicide. Males and boys are bullied more than females which can lead to an increased rate of mental health issues.

Masculine qualities like physical strength are favored over feminine qualities like intelligence. Similarly, boys tend to be physically weaker than girls

As a result, boys may feel more pressure to live up to the expectation created by the media.

DEALING WITH BAD COMPANY AND CULTURE:

One of the issues/challenges that boys have to face is a bad company that can consist of boys from various cultures. In the case of Pakistan, boys from Pathan families can have a really bad influence on boys from other cultures.

There are innumerate cases of boys who have been exploited at the hands of Pathan boys. Such influence/impact and company take away the innocence of growing-up boys. All ideals of love and inclusiveness go to waste when one faces such ordeals at a very early age.

Unfortunately, such horrors are sealed behind walls and trunks only taken out when one needs to serve their interests and manifestos

DEALING WITH EMOTIONS:

Eighthly, Males are often expected to be independent which makes it difficult for them to ask for help when they need it.

The challenges faced by boys growing up are different from girls, who are given more leeway to show emotions.

Men are expected to be tough, which can lead to less self-esteem and an increased risk of suicide.

TACKLING DEPRESSION:

Ninthly is depression which has its roots embedded not only in society but also in homes where things keep on adding up and making the lives of boys difficult altogether.

Boys are often ashamed to talk about depression because of the stigma attached to the condition.

Depression can be hard to spot in boys because they use different coping techniques than girls, but it’s there.

FREEDOM TO DO THINGS AT ONE’S WILL:

And lastly, is the freedom which is denied in most households as parents ego is too high to let lose the child and grow naturally. We all learn through mistakes.

We as parents and carers can secure our children but we need to give them space to breathe and grow.

If as enlightened individuals, we will not think about the growing up teens or boys or the soon become adult, then who would. It’s high time to save your generations from going to the doldrums.

Just look at them. Save them, love them, give them time and a conducive environment to grow.https://www.sabahataamir.com/tips-on-grooming-boys-sons-part-i/

In the end, I would like to say that we need to teach our children from an early age not to oppress each other based on gender and instead treat everyone equally and we need to create balance and awareness of emotions in our society so that all can grow harmoniously and confidently with high esteem.

We need to change the way that boys are brought up for them to avoid these challenges, but it is also about changing the attitudes of men. We must teach them that it is okay for them to cry for example.

It is ok to let out feelings of anger, and rage and it is ok to fight with parents when the situation prevails. It is also ok to tell what you feel in the spur of the moment without keeping up appearances.

Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

SOLUTIONS TO CHILDREN’S PROBLEM

IN SCHOOLS

(PART -II)

Hello Folks!

Last week, I discussed the problems children face in schools. This week, I aim at discussing some of the solutions to the problem that children are facing in most school systems. So let’s start.

The first solution to children’s problems in school is the need to teach them the difference between fantasy and reality about schools. As said, “all that glitters is not gold”. And so is the scenario with every school system that exists.

Programs and segments on TV, show the fantasy and dreamlike world where children are about to enter whereas, in reality, there is no such thing of the kind. Their small dreams yet to take reality are crushed when they see the difference between fantasy and the real world.

Secondly, the problem of bullying needs to be tackled in full letter and spirit. Its time to show that actions have consequences. And no one can escape, no matter what the background is.

Thirdly, Favouritism needs to come to an end. If the school wants to reward a teacher for his/her services, there are better ways to do it. It does not have to be the child of that teacher. Although exceptions are always there and that’s why merit systems are made.

Fourthly, the overall system of Groupings in the school should be discouraged. After all, schools are for everyone and there should be no difference based on status among fellow pupils. All school bearers should be appointed based on certain criteria rather than popularity only.

Fifthly, school Canteens need to provide healthy food that is home-cooked if they want to be spared of future ratios of obesity. Plus by encouraging home-cooked food in the school will be a step forward to promote small businesses.

As many of the school workers maybe having it as a sideline to cater for their household needs. However, quality under no circumstance should be compromised.

Sixthly, the mixing of young and old children especially boys should be strictly Monitored. For this purpose, separate teachers are needed to assign this task to. And this trend of one teacher for all tasks should be diminished.

After all, teachers too are human and cannot carry on tasks like a robot.

Seventh, all schools small and big have many areas where they are collecting Funds in the name of miscellaneous. These funds need to be used diligently especially when it comes to the well being of the students.

For the rising change in behaviors of the students, be it related to anger or stress or psychological or mood outbursts; there is a dire need for the appointment of Area-Specific Counselors in the school. One for all is not the solution to every problem.

Children might be needing consultation in studies or sports or other awareness.

Eighthly, where there is a need for a Parent to Children interaction, same is the requirement and need of a Parent to Teacher interaction. This problem needs to be addressed duly by both parties to prevent future events that might be taking place in children’s life.

And lastly, Schools need to Enroll themselves with certain Institutions that work on the overall personality of a child. These programs can be related to anger management or psyche or overall well being. And the counselor has to recommend such programs for the child in consultation with the school and parents.

As for other children, there should be a compulsion to work for some time,  as a paid job either with their school or some charity to introduce the habit of hard work right from the early years.

Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

PROBLEMS OF CHILDREN AT SCHOOL PART-I

(BASED ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCES)

Hello Folks!

Life is simple yet it can become complicated at times especially when children /teens face school problems. Today, I aim at talking about school problems that children face. So let’s start.

School is said to be the next lap after a mother’s lap but unfortunately, many schools fail to provide that safe lap as compared to a mother’s lap. The moment a child enters a school he/she is exposed to the external world.

The first shock that a child receives is the difference between reality and what he/she is told right from the beginning about schools. All the dreams start shattering as children start realizing the reality of school.

The second problem that children face is the difficulty in making friends. Every child is coming from a different background and schools might not be well equipped to make every child apt to the environment or make them feel less miserable than they already are.

The third problem that children face is the problem of bullying. Every child is not a born leader or may not have the strength to stand up for themselves. Here, too, the administration seems to fail desperately in acknowledging and resolving the problems of bullying.

There are very few institutions in Pakistan that have zero tolerance towards bullying. Others are benefitting from them. They are enjoying this benefit in the name of clientele.

The fourth problem the children face in schools is Nepotism. It is rarely seen that a staff child may be of outstanding caliber as compared to other children. Although exceptions are always there.

But most of the time, a faculty staff-child is given the undue privilege as compared to a hard-working student. This attitude of the school administration devoids the confidence of a hard-working student for life. For he/she knows in that particular system, he/she cannot excel with the lot.

The fifth problem children face in schools is regarding grouping. The groups in school gain the favour of certain faculty staff and enjoy benefits whereas others are at a disadvantage. This attitude is mostly witnessed at the time of school elections and other co-curricular activities.

The need of the time is to have fair and accountable elections if a scenario arises.

The sixth problem children face in schools is regarding the food provided in the canteen. Most of the food is junk which altogether is injurious for the health of any child. There should be a balance between the foods served in the school keeping in view the dietary habits of every child. Plus a separate canteen is needed for the junior and senior level.

The seventh problem that children face in schools is regarding the mixing of young and old boys, especially at off times. Mostly the transport areas are the most neglected areas where young children can become easy prey to older children not to mention the van drivers.

The eighth problem that children face in schools is regarding settlements issue. Most of the times the faculty is not trained according to the requirement of a specific child’s need. Every school requires the services of trained counsellors who knows his/her job and can guide the children accordingly.

And lastly, every child needs a conducive environment to excel in life. If there is no or less conducive environment for the development of a child then we are looking in for trouble. The impact may be deep and take another few years to bring the child back to normal again. Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.
