ALL THAT GLITTER IS NOT GOLD;

EXPLOITATION IN THE NAME OF SERVING HUMANITY

Hello Folks!

We have often heard the phrase, All that glitter is not gold. Today, I aim at analyzing this phrase. So let’s start. Below are pieces of evidence of what I have witnessed on a one to one basis.

I reached out to the Integrated Health Services (IHS) to hire a Nurse and an attendant to meet the medical needs of my father. I had heard a lot of good things from the people who hired their services.

Frankly, if you are only hiring attendants from them, you are going to be 100 percent satisfied. The two attendants that I hired are real professionals serving the needs of my father.

However, the nurses that they sent in the name of professionals were crap and nothing near to a professional nurse. The first nurse (Sarfraz) that was sent for my father caused the infection to him in passing the catheter.

As a result of his unprofessional service, we had to rush my father to the emergency where he urinated blood through the catheter to relieve him from the retention.

Instead of being sorry for his actions, instead, he tried to blame my father that he had tried to pull out and the IHS tried to put a cover on the person and put the matter under the carpet.

The second time they sent another nurse(Muhammad Husnain) qualifying him too, as a professional. I kept on telling the organization that the person they have sent again is a student and not a professional nurse but they weren’t ready to listen.

I kept on observing him check out his professionalism but he too was nothing more than a quack. He did not know how to make an injection or read the meds name or even fill insulin.

A professional nurse would know the difference between giving 6 unit insulin and 60 unit insulin. Had I, not known how to fill insulin and the required amount to be given, my father would have gone into a coma.

I was shocked to see his unprofessional attitude and was greatly awed by just thinking about what would these people do in places where the old family members ate exclusively dependant on these nurses.

However, the last thing which I was not expecting he would do was to remove my father’s catheter. I was extremely upset and frustrated at his attitude.

I had called the nurse from a nearby hospital to pass the catheter. He was saved from the demise we faced earlier at the hands of the nurse, Sarfraz.

I called the organization and talked to their coordinator Haroon and brought the event to his notice but as usual, he denied saying that the other coordinator Sadiq called the nurse and asked him why had he done such a thing?

The male nurse instead of admitting his mistake said that the family had permitted him and the old member himself told to remove the catheter. Seriously, a person who has Dementia, would you do what he is saying?

You are intelligent to do the calculation yourself, my friends. In the end, I would like to say that even if you hire attendants or nurses for your parents, do ensure your supervisory role instead of trusting them 100 percent.

Regretfully, very few organizations in true spirit serve humanity in spirit and letter.

Parents are an asset. Don’t leave them at the mercy of anyone. Think about the times when you were in their place and what they did for you. Life is a cycle. What you do today will eventually come back to you.

Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and healthy.

MEMOIRS OF AN ORPHAN

Hello Folks!

I often think about orphans regarding what becomes of them when their parent/parents are no more and they are left at the mercy of their relatives.

Today, I will share with you an insight regarding this. So let’s start. It’s not necessary that every orphan has to go through the same problems and pinches. Sometimes, we altogether,  have a very different experience.

A few months ago, I met one such person. A youth who is working in a medical organization as a medical attendant for the welfare of senior people.

A brief talk with him told a lot about his childhood experiences and the way society reacts towards orphans. So much to learn at such a tender age.

On inquiring about the traditional attitude of the relatives, both maternal and paternal toward him and the siblings, he had no complaints from the maternal side.

He was clear about one thing regarding maternal relatives which was that they were always at their back from childhood to adulthood. Never, did once he or the siblings felt like separate members of the family.

However, he felt grieved on the attitude of the paternal side who was never there for them when they needed them the most.

The only time, they contacted was, when they wanted the land/property. And the way the paternal relatives manipulated one of the siblings for their own benefit. So much so that it led to guilt and shame and the ultimate result was the death of the sibling.

They got what they wanted. But the siblings still await justice even today.

Sometimes, we don’t know where our actions would take us, and we can be easily fooled by clever people. Only sincere friends and family can save us from falling into these kinds of trap.

But sometimes, even friends and family can’t help us and we fall into an abyss resulting in a permanent loss.

Orphans are the most sensitive beings who look for love, care, and acceptance wherever they go. And if they find such people, they own them throughout their lives.

And if they don’t, they keep on searching for people who accept them. Being a medical attendant in Pakistan is not much of a rewarding career especially if the mindset of the employer is of a boss and not of a human being.

We, as individuals are kinder towards our pets but less sensitive to the needs of a human being who we often take for granted.

As far as orphans are concerned, the relatives know how to manipulate them to their own benefit later to discard them from the mainframe of work. It is heart aching to see such behavior always.

If relatives can be monsters then what to expect from society at large. They too are no less than a nightmare. An orphan, even at a tender age learns and absorbs the brutality/reality of life when he /she has to face them every second of the day.

How will all this shape one’s personality? You my, friends are intelligent to understand and interpret all this. Those of you who are guardians of orphans treat them well with utter responsibility and care.

And those of you who are thinking of becoming a guardian to them, place yourself in their footsteps and then act with love and care as you don’t know when fate can stop smiling at you.

It is small acts of kindness that pay us in the long run. Think about it. Until next time stay safe and healthy.

SCAPE GOATS FOR TRAINEES

UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL

PART-I

Hello Folks!

Have you ever witnessed and experienced being treated as a scapegoat at the hands of trainees. Most of you will second me because we witness this every day in Pakistan. HOW? I will tell you in detail in just a moment. So let’s start.

For the past three weeks, I have witnessed this, up close and personal. I went to KRL Hospital as my past experiences were really good. Acquaintances and family members who went in for treatment there, came out alive.

The team of doctors then was a good one. It was a good time. However, over the years, I believe the system within the hospital has degraded a lot. This, I witnessed when I went in after a couple of years.

I went in for an emergency but twice, I was referred to the general OPD where a couple of tests were carried out, nothing relevant to the cause.

Keeping in ICU for two days, I was discharged by giving antibiotics for the treatment to be done at home. And to have followed up after a week.

In between, I relapsed again and got admitted, to have another dose of tests and bla bla to be discharged the same day.

The irony is that I was not an entitled patient or any panel and came in a personal capacity as a common citizen of Pakistan. Not that, I didn’t have references but I wanted to see the compassion of Dr.s there as had witnessed in the past.

But, I only saw money minting and experimenting with trainees who were more concerned about their empirical theories about my state without giving me the source of the problem.

And experimenting with their medicines to worsen my condition. When I relapsed the third time and went to the same hospital; this time not only with severe infection but also neck pain.

I kept on insisting to see a neurology Dr. for the neck pain but I was still being treated for the infections. I spent two days in utter misery and pain and discomfort.

All this time, I was at the mercy of the trainees without an experienced, skill-related Dr. I was their scapegoat.

Finally, my prayers were heard and I got relief from my misery. Not by KRL Doctors or trainees or incapacitated staff but through a reference.

Being a Pakistani citizen, I too had to use the reference system to show you my friends that here in Pakistan to be a common person is a sin.

If you want to live, you need to have support at your back. Otherwise, every one of us is scapegoats at the hands of the trainee doctors who are incapacitated in times of emergencies.

Thanks to my paternal cousins and family that I was saved from the guillotines and did not end up being anyone’s lab rat.

I am still being treated at a good hospital by a team of professionals and getting better day by day. I need your prayers to bring you the harsh realities of life and the victim of being a common person in Pakistan.

There is a lot of food for thought here. Think about it. Until next time, stay safe and Healthy.
